Brochure for Grateful Glass

Project: 8 Page Brochure, Double Gate Fold
Client: Grateful Glass, Matt Olian
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Tools: Photoshop, GoogleDrive
Backstory: Grateful Glass is an up-and-coming powerhouse company specializing in the afterlife industry (for lack of a more informed term). Head Honcho Matt Olian is an acclaimed glass blowing artisan who studied with the great masters on the island of Murano in Italy. He was experiencing mild success with his company, Vulcan Glass Works, until a client asked him to create a glass piece infused with her recently passed love one’s ashes. The vessel was set into a pendant style piece of jewelry and delivered. The result was emotional, tearful, and full of joy. So began Grateful Glass!

The owner, Matt Olian, is a fellow hometown resident of Cherry Hill, NJ – where I, too, am from. I think we might have met outside of Sagami one night through my cousin Blake. As a small business owner, Matt was in need of quite a bit of design help, in order to properly brand Grateful Glass and establish its legitimacy to grieving clientele.
It began by responding to a query on Facebook. Matt was looking to have his web banner resized for his Etsy page. I responded and crushed the project with blazing speed and accuracy. I eventually received a handmade custom blown glass pen in exchange for the initial task (it is pretty f’n awesome). More importantly, Matt recognized a value in the quality and timeliness of my work which helped him to hire me for several projects he was needing.
Grateful Glass was seeking a sleek, minimal, photo rich brochure to be designed by a professional. DoggHouse Productions was there to answer the call. After much consideration, I felt it was best that we avoided stapling pages together. I also felt that there was an opportunity to use this marketing brochure to tell a story. We discovered the “double-gate fold” style and never looked back.
The brochure features incredibly rich, colorful, “slutty” photographs of his most popular products. Coming up with the layout became obvious after a while. Once you open the cover, the display features a story about the products as well as the company. It creates a sense of the ordering process, insight into the craft and care necessary to produce the pieces, and who stands behind them. The back cover features ordering information, a 100% satisfaction guarantee, as well as contact information.
The heart and soul of the brochure sings majestically upon opening the spread. The 4 pages feature the 5 most popular product categories: Pendants (3 styles), Rings, Cuffs, Comfort Stones, and Orbs. There’s also rich colorful variations available for each style. DHP really loved the aesthetic trend of circular imagery, as opposed to traditional box or square portrait frames. With expert Photoshop skills, all images were color corrected, tweaked, and then framed & cropped in a circular manner with an elegant feather transition to blend the circles subtly into the white canvas backdrop. Storyline and textual content was produced mainly by Matt with excerpts from his website www.GratefulGlass.com.
Finally, after much consideration, the brochures were printed at PS Print. Their prices cut the competition by nearly 65% off. And they didn’t charge extra for the double-gate folding process. It’s hard to argue with logic and common sense. We chose an 80pt matte cover stock, with no gloss. It made for a really nice texture to touch and provided a great base for colorful sharp 300 DPI photography.
Congratulations to Grateful Glass on their double gate fold brochure design. Brochure design executed with excellence by DoggHouse Productions in collaboration with Matt Olian and Grateful Glass. That’s how the pro’s do it!
